Unless you have taken an extended sabbatical from the construction industry, you have undoubtedly heard of building information modeling, more commonly known as BIM. Over the course of the past year, Construction Project Controls & BIM Report have strived to bring you the latest information about BIM, its advances, areas for improvement and industry updates. The latest news to hit the BIM airwaves is the release of McGraw-Hill’s latest SmartMarket Report -- Building Information Modeling (BIM): Transforming the Design and Construction Industry to Achieve Greater Industry Productivity. Deke Smith, executive director of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) buildingSMART alliance, gives Project Controls readers an inside look at the report. His analysis summarizes the contents of the report, as well as research findings not included in the published version.
The rest of this issue also ties into the 4D (time) and 5D (cost) elements of the building process. A look at features of Oracle|Primavera’s scheduling processes and a discussion of budgets and cost controls round out this issue.
