FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Washington, DC, June 3, 2009 -- Nearly 17 cents of every dollar in the $787 billion 2009
American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act stimulus
package will be spent on construction. And, with the ever-increasing awareness
of sustainability, as well as the General Services Administration's recent requirement
that all new government buildings (and renovations) meet LEED certification
standards, much of that $131 billion in stimulus construction will include green
building projects.
WPL
Publishing and Green Building Insider
are pleased to present Green Building
Best Practices 2009, a four-part webinar series that provides an up-to-date
view on today's important green building issues. The series, which begins June
17, will include lively discussions on the new LEED 2009 certification changes
and processes, LEED drivers from stimulus projects and existing building
opportunities, the role of Building Information Modeling in green design and
construction, and new risk factors arising from increased regulations.
Green
Building Best Practices 2009 is specifically tailored to the needs and interests
of owners, contractors, architects, engineers, construction managers and attorneys
in the construction industry. Session panelists will identify and formulate
strategies to help organizations, large and small, reap the benefits of green
building.
The
panelists are all established leaders in the green building industry and have
been hand selected based on their work with the U.S. Green Building Council and
the LEED rating system.
Uncovering LEED 2009 - Managing the
Transition
Wed., June 17, 2009 at 1 p.m. (EDT)
What
impacts will LEED 2009 have on green building? Plenty, say session presenters Elaine
Aye and Glen Phillips. These speakers, from Green Building Services Inc. (GBS),
were contributing authors to the LEED 2009 Reference Guides and LEED Accredited
Professional Study Guides. They will discuss relevant features of LEED Version
3, the 2009 rating system (focusing on new construction, schools and existing
buildings), the applied future of green building, and more.
Existing Buildings and Stimulus -
Cultivating Opportunities
Wed., June 24 at 1 p.m. (EDT)
New
construction comprises just five percent of the building industry yet garners
the bulk of the media's construction coverage. Sean Ivery and Nigel Hughes of
Navigant Consulting know that it's relatively easy to construct a green
building from the ground up. But what about the other 95 percent? Existing
building retrofits come with unique complications and limitations. Ivery and
Hughes will walk you through the activities, issues, motivations and
constraints that go into greening an existing building. They will focus on
certification standards, incentives and motivations for owners and tenants,
case studies, tools and methods to overcome barriers, and more.
Improved Green Building Design and
Construction through BIM
Wed., July 8, 2009 at 1 p.m. (EDT)
Building
Information Modeling is not just for design and clash detection. BIM is an invaluable
tool to the green building process, particularly in modeling various scenarios
to find the greenest solutions. Vaibhav Potnis and Dennis Shelden have extensive experience using
BIM with green building processes. He will discuss how BIM can be implemented
for siting, energy analysis, value engineering, estimating, performance
measurements, and more.
Dealing with New Green Building Laws and
Implementing Federal, State and Local Regulations
Wed., July 22, 2009 at 1 p.m. (EDT)
Bryan
Jackson and Mike Cathcart are no strangers to construction law. Between them,
they have 50 years of experience litigating issues in the built industry. But,
the rapid increase in sustainable building construction has introduced a
plethora of new legal questions, particularly with risk, liabilities and
compliance. How do you identify and deal with risk? What about regulations at
the federal, state and local levels? Jackson and Cathcart will address these
issues and more, leaving time at the end for questions from webinar
participants.
Webinar
tuition is based on location, not number of participants. So, each participating
office can have multiple participants gather round and listen in for one low price.
Time will be allotted at the end of each session for questions and answers. To
learn more about each session and how you can receive special pricing on the entire series, visit www.greenbuild2009.com/GreenBuild2009Brochure.pdf.
